Throwing a party for your little boy and can’t find the right decorations to fit your party? Finding boy’s party decorations can be hard and stressful. Stress no more, we have curated and compiled a list of all things boys, blue and party.
It can be really tricky throwing a boy’s party, with heaps of obstacles you didn’t know existed until you’ve already set your heart on the soiree. Picking a theme is heard because some boys are ‘into’ it, you’ll find limited decorations targeted to boys and worst of all, you’ll find the birthday boy uninterested in any of the party planning. (I mean we had to expect that last one a little) So to help you jump over these hurdles, here are some tips and tricks to get you there.
Boys Party Themes
I know, I know, they don’t want a theme. But ignore them for a minute because picking a theme is more than just telling your guests how to dress, it helps you plan and decorate with ease.
Firstly heres a list of cool, up to date (I hope) themes that will interest young boys to teenagers;
- Minecraft
- Sport
- Roblox
- Lego
- Dress up Parties
- Dress ups starting with the birthday boy’s name
- Favourite video game dress up
- Sport’s star dress up
- Favourite movie
- Colour theme (guests dress in black and white)
See if you can get them with any of their favourite things, but if they’re adamant on NO THEME then you’ll need to have a sub-theme that they approve of. This is a totally made up term to help you with your party planning and decorating. My interpretation of a sub-theme is something like this:
- A vibe
- A colour
- An aesthetic
Did I confuse you even more? Let me explain..
A vibe
What is the vibe the party boy is after, does he want a huge super special shindig, a chill party, super luxe and fancy, sporty and cool etc. It should be what they envision as their ideal party.
A colour
You will need a colour palette for your event, simple. It will help with all types of decorating and planning too. Go through what kind of colours suit the vibe and what the birthday boy is happy with. The easiest way is to pick two, say Blue and White and then go from there.
Once you have your colours picked you have a basis for your invites, decorations, backdrops and everything else.
An aesthetic
Similar to vibe but with more focus on what everything will look like. Are they thinking minimal decor, heaps of decor, pinball machine or blank canvas. This will help guide you in the process.
As an example lets say our young party person wants a super luxe vibe, with blue, white and gold colour palette in a blank canvas aesthetic venue. Now you have a lot to go off on, you can design your invites, organise a backdrop and a venue.
Boy’s Party Backdrop
Boy’s party decorations don’t need to be complicated, hire one super cool backdrop and have most of the work done for you! Here are some luxe party backdrop for boys we have designed. (of course not exclusive to boys only)

This is our luxe blue backdrop we have at Ethos Events. You’ll see that the flowers are arranged in blues, white and gold which fits our hypothetical client’s desires. This blue backdrop is really popular with baby showers, christening and young birthdays. We see the appeal of these two to reach a target audience of younger boys, however we are always working on new backdrops to reach all kinds of clientele.

Our smaller backdrop which we call Cloudy Blue, is so subtle whet still so luxe. If you have a good look you’ll see the flowers are arranged in blues, white and gold. This one again is super popular for baby showers and young boys, we think it’s the clouds that make the vibe so dreamy and cute.

This one has potential for a teenage boy party, with a little styling to fit the personality of the birthday boy of course. Flowers can be omitted if preferred or replaced with balloons and other decor. We do quite like a bare backdrop, it can be quite impressive.
Party Decorations You Need!
The world of decorating can be overwhelming, so here’s my list of easy decorations that make the most of a difference. Here are some boy’s party decorations to help your party go from ehhh to wow!
Invitations
Invitations are the first contact between your party and your guests. They set the mood for what the party will be like, the vibe, aesthetic and what guests are to expect. Gone are the days where invites merely told you where the party was, they are so much more than that.
Tablecloths
Invest in some good quality tablecloths, or just simple don’t buy the cheap plastic ones. They don’t do any favours in the styling department, plus you can re-use the fabric ones. Sustainable and stylish!
Napkins
As silly as it may sound, napkins make a difference. Keep them on theme, if you budget allows, splurge for fabric napkins they make a HUGE difference. If not, look for some nice quality ones that don’t feel like plastic.
Tableware
Tableware can get expensive if your staying away from cheap disposable plastics, but now there are so many tableware hire companies available that will do most of the work for you! Styling a table is just as important as styling the party, don’t ignore these tips for cohesion and elegance.
